"The Arran Dragon"

This piece was inspired by a visit to the Isle of Arran. The island is made of mainly igneous rock which would have flown as scorching molten lava millions of years ago. I wanted to reflect the ferry past of this beautiful island in this fused glass piece and so created a dragon, a fierce but beautiful 'animal'. To me Arran was a magical forbidding place hence my choice of a mythical creature. I layered small fragments of cut glass to create the effect of scales before firing the piece on a tack fuse to retain texture.
