"Exchange of Letters"

To create my paper-thin handmade sheets of glass, I first pull tubes of glass in the hot shop and then cut them open vertically with a hot torch. These cylinder halves are then put into a kiln to slump. By emulating the sheet glass process of the past with scientific tubes, the result is an almost invisible glass page with clarity and evidence of the hand. In this performance, I present an unassuming glass page on the wall and gather participants around it. I then guide the group through a series of prompts that include the passing around of the glass page. Fingerprints, and other marks, take the place of text on the document and serve as a new language. This project is ongoing.
