"Colony of Colonies"

'Colony of Colonies' is a group of three modular casts. Although they were all moulded and cast from the same 'kit' of modular silicone parts, each has a different design. For each Colony, the modules were reconfigured - changing the overall shape. After the initial casting, each Colony was slumped into a mould, then held at temperature until the individual modules started to move - breathing life into the pieces. While clearly created from hard geometry, I feel this group strongly mimics the natural world: it reminds me of the colonies of coral polyps on a reef. Image: Simon Bruntnell
