The Glass Prize 2017

Winner (Bullseye Glass Artists Category):

Madisyn Zabel  "Pitted"

Glass, nails, string, metal.  This piece examines spatial relationships between three-dimensional objects and their two-dimensional representations. Cast glass forms are tethered to corresponding wireframe drawings, stretching from the wall and projected into space.

Type of glass used: Bullseye Glass Billet

Type of kiln used: Woodrow, Naber Casting Kiln

The Bullseye Glass Artists category was judged jointly by Lani McGregor, co-owner of Bullseye Glass Company and Michael Endo, Glass Artist. 

The prize for this category is donated by Bullseye Glass Co and is worth approximately $3000. It includes a one week workshop with Bullseye Glass Co in the United States, hotel accommodation and some meals, and the opportunity to meet the Bullseye Glass team. Joseph James Gibson (Age 12, RGS Guildford) "Captain America's Shield"

Joseph is currently a year 8 student at the RGS school in Guildford, Surrey, UK. Type of glass used: Bullseye Glass. Type of kiln used: Paragon Fusion 8

The winner of this category was voted for on our Facebook page where Joseph gained 620 votes.

The prize for this category is a one day personalised teacher training day for two people at our state-of-the-art studio here in Somerset plus an IPad Mini for the child whose piece is selected as the winner.


Winner (Other Glass category):

Péter Borkovics   "Genesis”

The composition freezes the very moment when the original elements emerge into existence. Their separetation initiates the eternal wheel of time. The Divine Geometry slowly starts its incomprehensible chaotic proliferation... and we mortals are caght up and torn apart whithin it. The triangular floor plan is the simbol of Book of Moses.


 The Other Glass category was judged by Bob Leatherbarrow,Inernational Glass Artist. 

 The prize for this category is a Warm Glass UK Gift Voucher.
